About Derby

Derby is a historic city in the East Midlands, often regarded as one of the birthplaces of the Industrial Revolution, evidenced by the Derwent Valley Mills UNESCO World Heritage Site and the Museum of Making at the former Silk Mill, the world’s first factory. Today, Derby is a modern centre for advanced manufacturing, most famously as the home of Rolls-Royce engines and Alstom (formerly Bombardier) trains, giving it a strong industrial and engineering identity. The housing landscape is rich in character and variety, reflecting its long history of growth, and includes many traditional Victorian and Edwardian terraced houses built for industrial workers, alongside numerous 1930s-style semi-detached family homes. Modern developments contribute a wide range of properties, from new detached houses and apartments/flats in the city centre and surrounding areas, to converted period buildings, offering a diverse mix of residences.
